2009: Year of the Hacker.

I think this is an interesting point to make. My interpretation of that goes something like this:

Because there are so many hacker-like personalities that are losing jobs and being thrown into unemployment, we are about to experience the collective net-boom of their tinkering and innovation as their free time grows from a 8-9 hour job to none at all. Tinkerers will always tinker, job or not, and if they have all that time to tinker, why not use some of it, maybe to make something for oneself that gets put back into the world, and maybe to put something out that gains recognition and a job later. I’m not one hundred percent sure that will happen, but It’s a very likely possibility.

I think it will be one of those things, either it doesn’t happen at all, or it blows all expectations and completely revolutionizes the digital (and maybe even physical) world as we know it. What will happen remains to be seen, but a positive outlook never hurt anyone.

So, it looks like I’ve finally finished setting this blog up. I shall see how it fares in the coming days as I usually don’t do well with blogs. Maybe I should set up a 30 minute block from each day where I am to blog on the days events, or maybe (in a more characteristic fashion) rant about some technology thing or another that someone, somewhere, is managing to just completely bollocks up. One of these days, I’ll get permalinks working so I can submit these posts to more reputable places that like the <blogurl>/year/month/day/post-title format alittle better than just the standard ?p=1 stuff.

Well, I can say from setting this up, wordpress does leave alot to be desired as far as speed goes, but I hear Wordpress 2.8 has a primary focus on speed increases, so maybe that will improve in the coming months.

Well, cherio!
